After a brief introduction on crafts which is the heart of our activity with the promotion of African crafts, we will begin a slightly more opaque area which is the issues.
I will only speak about my country Senegal because I cannot claim to speak on behalf of the other countries of my African brothers and sisters. Heart on you :)
So simply, if I refer to the official figures, namely that of the entire Senegalese GDP, crafts represent more than 10% of it in 2022. Let's take these figures with a grain of salt since our economies are mostly underground, but at our level and in complete transparency, we have been working with more than 7 people since the beginning and have all been evolving together since 2021.
Many of our fellow citizens are involved in crafts, whether in jewelry, leather goods, cabinetmaking, shoemaking, carpentry, weaving looms, etc. All these sectors do not produce the same wealth, but we agree that they are all real treasures that we must preserve and highlight.
For what ?
Crafts produce real wealth that circulates through the economic fabric, it is about the movement of goods, currencies and talents on a constant basis. Many craftsmen are forced into it because of school failure and many do it out of passion or to send their children to schools so that they can be educated and can open more professional doors.
Today, there are more and more opportunities for artisans to modernize their techniques and tools with the significant support of microcredits or state subsidies.
